Come and join us.......
Who?

We welcome women young and old, working or retired and from all walks of life. We have members from Bolsover and our surrounding towns and villages.

We fit together like patchwork and enjoy each other's friendship, company and support.

Our members interests and skills are diverse.  You won't feel out of place with us. In fact, we hope you'll feel just right.

Each WI is different. You could say ours is like a mixed bag of sweets!

Community...

We love our town, who wouldn't?

We are perched on a hill surrounded by beautiful countryside close to the Peak District. We have a friendly welcoming community and there are plenty of interesting events to get involved in throughout the year.

Bolsover summer Gala, the Food Festival, the Parish Church Flower Festival, the hill race, the Christmas and scarecrow festival, the annual lantern parade and English Heritage events, draw visitors from far and wide. There is always something going on...

We also have many community groups including the Civic Society and the Rotary Club. Some of our members are part of these too. We sometimes run joint activities and we can be seen regularly out and about in Bolsover supporting our local events.

Our town...

Bolsover is full of history. You can't fail to notice our majestic castle dominating the hillside.

The nationally important Bolsover Giant Dragonflies (fossils) were discovered here. We have lime kilns, conduit houses, and lots of fabulous historic buildings to explore on a special town trail. Not to mention our beautiful parish church with its underground crypt, which can be visited on open days.

The mining industry has formed a significant part of our town history. The Model Village was built for mine workers in 1891 and is currently undergoing

restoration. Did you know that Bolsover was also the birthplace of explorer, Peter Fidler. He had a long career in the employ of the Hudson's Bay Company in what later became Canada!

We had the opportunity to explore our own Bolsover WI history. You can find out more on our archive page.

Why join?

Our meetings gives us the opportunity to try new things in a fun, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We also find out about events that are happening in our community or further afield that we might want to get involved with.

We participate in wider WI events and competitions at both Regional (DFWI) and National level (NFWI).

Each meeting is different. It could be dancing, a talk, a demonstration or a craft session and we only sing Jerusalem once a year at our annual meeting! Take a look

at our 'Whats on Page' for

our 2020 programme.
